FAAC Automatic Vehicle Gates, Pedestrian Access & Intercom Installation

Mere UK completed the installation and commissioning of automatic vehicle gates and a controlled pedestrian entrance at Blueberry Primary School in Liverpool, creating a safer and more controlled access arrangement for staff, visitors and deliveries. The project incorporated FAAC automatic gate operators, Bell Systems intercoms, vehicle detection and a secured pedestrian gate, providing separate arrangements for vehicle and pedestrian access to the school.

Dedicated control equipment and electrical supplies were installed for the entrance systems, allowing the automatic gates, access controls and associated safety equipment to operate as an integrated solution. A key consideration was maintaining separation between pedestrians and the automated vehicle entrance, with pedestrians directed to a dedicated pedestrian access point rather than passing through the automatic vehicle gates.

Automatic Vehicle Gate Installation

Mere UK installed and commissioned an automated vehicle entrance at Blueberry Primary School using two FAAC automatic gate operators controlled through a FAAC 455D control panel.

Dedicated electrical supplies were provided along with a local Riverdon enclosure housing the associated gate control equipment.

Vehicle exit from the secure side of the school was provided using induction floor loops, allowing vehicles leaving the site to activate the automatic gates without compromising controlled entry.

Visitor & Delivery Access

Access for visitors and deliveries was managed through Bell Systems intercom equipment, allowing access requests to be handled by school staff before entry was permitted.

This provided the school with a controlled method of managing people arriving on site without allowing unrestricted access through the vehicle entrance.

Separate Pedestrian Entrance

The automatic vehicle gates were designed specifically for vehicle use rather than pedestrian access.

Pedestrians were instead directed towards a separate pedestrian gate entrance, creating a clearer distinction between pedestrian and vehicle movements around the school entrance.

The pedestrian gate incorporated a weatherproof magnetic lock, with visitor entry controlled through the Bell Systems intercom.

Exit from the secure side was provided by push-button control.

Controlled Pedestrian Gate Operation

The pedestrian entrance also incorporated hold-open magnets controlled from the school’s main reception.

This allowed staff to hold the pedestrian gates open when required during appropriate periods while retaining controlled access during normal operation.

An override key switch was incorporated to provide authorised control over the vehicle and pedestrian gate systems when necessary.

Integrated School Entrance Solution

The completed installation provided Blueberry Primary School with an integrated combination of automatic vehicle gates, pedestrian access control, visitor intercom and vehicle detection.

By separating pedestrian access from the automated vehicle entrance and providing controlled visitor entry, the project created a more structured entrance arrangement for the school.
