Automatic Vehicle & Pedestrian Gates for Millbrook Primary School

Access Control and Safety Systems

Mere UK successfully completed the installation and commissioning of a new automated vehicle and pedestrian entrance system at Millbrook Primary School in Shevington, within the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan.

The project was designed to improve site security and safeguarding by providing controlled vehicle access together with a dedicated automated pedestrian entrance, ensuring the safe separation of vehicles and pedestrians during the school day.

Millbrook Primary School,
Location: Shevington, Wigan, Greater Manchester

Completion Date: 25/06/2026

Project Duration: 3.5 Weeks

Automatic Vehicle Gates

The new vehicle entrance comprises a fully automated double swing gate providing secure access for authorised vehicles entering the school grounds.

Vehicle exit is controlled using underground induction loop detectors installed within the secure area, allowing the gates to open automatically for exiting traffic.

The installation also incorporates monitored safety photocells and pressure-sensitive safety edges (bumper strips), ensuring the gates operate safely whilst protecting both vehicles and pedestrians.

Automatic Pedestrian Gate

A dedicated automated pedestrian swing gate was installed alongside the vehicle entrance to provide a safe and convenient access route for pupils, staff and authorised visitors.

The pedestrian gate is operated using a domed stainless steel exit push button mounted on the entrance pillar, providing simple and reliable operation whilst maintaining site security.

Visitor Communication

Both the vehicle entrance and pedestrian entrance are equipped with Videx intercom systems, enabling visitors and delivery drivers to communicate directly with school staff before access is granted.

The intercoms provide secure visitor management whilst allowing reception staff to remotely control both entrances.
