Automatic Sliding Gate & Intercom – Rainford CE Primary School

FAAC Sliding Gate Installation & Controlled Staff Parking in St Helens

Mere UK completed the installation of an automatic sliding gate and intercom system at Rainford CE Primary School in St Helens, providing controlled access to the school’s staff car park.

The school had experienced ongoing problems with misuse of its 30-space car park and damage to the existing manual swing gates. Mere UK was commissioned to develop an automated entrance solution that would restrict vehicle access to authorised staff while providing controlled access for visitors and deliveries.

The existing gates were removed and adapted to form a sliding gate, which was automated using a FAAC 741 sliding gate operator. Staff access was provided using FAAC remote handheld transmitters, with 30 transmitters issued to members of staff. An Aiphone intercom system connected the vehicle entrance to the school’s main reception, allowing visitors and deliveries to request access. Vehicle exit from the secure car park was provided using an induction loop, allowing authorised vehicles to exit automatically.

Controlled Staff Car Park Access

The project was commissioned following ongoing problems with unauthorised use of the school’s car park and damage to the existing manual entrance gates.

With approximately 30 parking spaces available, Rainford CE Primary School required a solution that would allow staff to conveniently access the car park while maintaining control over other vehicle movements.

Mere UK adapted the existing swing gates to create a powered sliding gate entrance, reducing the need to replace usable elements of the existing installation.

FAAC 741 Sliding Gate Automation

The entrance was automated using a FAAC 741 sliding gate operator, providing powered operation of the newly configured sliding gate.

The FAAC system enabled the school to replace manual operation with a controlled automatic entrance suited to the day-to-day requirements of the staff car park.

FAAC Remote Access for Staff

Authorised staff were provided with FAAC handheld remote transmitters to operate the automatic gate.

Thirty transmitters were issued, allowing members of staff to conveniently enter the car park while restricting normal vehicle access to authorised users.

Aiphone Visitor Intercom

Visitors and deliveries required a separate method of gaining access without being issued with a gate transmitter.

Mere UK therefore installed an Aiphone intercom system between the automatic gate and the school’s main reception.

Visitors could request entry at the gate, allowing reception staff to manage access to the school car park.

Automatic Vehicle Exit

Vehicle exit from the secure area was controlled using an induction loop.

The loop detects vehicles approaching the gate from inside the school grounds and enables vehicles to exit without requiring staff to operate their handheld transmitter.
