Client Requirements
The school required a cost-effective solution to automate their existing vehicle gate without the need for full gate replacement. Rather than replacing the gate, our team upgraded the existing structure with a reliable automation system, delivering a cost-effective solution with minimal disruption to the school. The gate is clearly designated as a vehicle-only access point, with appropriate signage installed to ensure safe and correct usage. Key objectives included:
- Enhancing vehicle access efficiency
- Maintaining clear separation between vehicle and pedestrian access
- Ensuring compliance with current automated gate safety regulations
- Providing reliable exit functionality for vehicles
Our Solution
Automation of Existing Gate
Rather than replacing the gate, we automated the existing structure, delivering a practical and economical upgrade. The gate was converted into a fully operational automated vehicle gate, improving day-to-day usability for staff and authorised vehicles.
Vehicle-Only Gate System
This installation was specifically designed and designated as a vehicle-only access gate. Clear signage was installed on-site to indicate that the gate is not intended for pedestrian use, helping to ensure safe operation and compliance.
Safety Features
As a vehicle-only system, the gate was fitted with appropriate safety measures, including:
- Safety sensors to detect obstructions and prevent unsafe movement
- Clearly visible warning signage to inform users of automated operation and vehicle-only access
In line with its intended use and risk assessment, safety edges were not required for this installation.
Exit Loop Installation
An exit loop system was installed to allow vehicles to exit the premises automatically. This provides a seamless and efficient exit process without requiring manual intervention.
Security
To enhance site security, the gate was fitted with an RGL ML1200 magnetic lock, providing a strong and reliable locking solution suitable for automated vehicle gates in educational environments.
Results
The completed automation has significantly improved access efficiency at Cowley High School, allowing for smooth vehicle entry and exit while maintaining a safe and controlled environment.
By upgrading the existing gate rather than replacing it, the client benefited from a cost-effective solution that delivers modern functionality with minimal disruption.
