Automatic Gate Installation at Bleak Hill School, Windle, St Helens

Installation of FAAC Automatic Gates & Intercom

MERE UK recently completed the installation of a new automated gate system at Bleak Hill School in Windle, St Helens. The project was designed to enhance site security, improve access control, and ensure safe entry and exit for both vehicles and pedestrians.

The installation included a double vehicle swing gate alongside two pedestrian access gates, all integrated with advanced automation and safety features tailored to a busy educational environment.

Client: Eurogold
Location: Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom

Completion Date: 09/12/2024

Project Duration: 3 Weeks

Client Requirements

Bleak Hill School required a secure and reliable access solution that could:

  • Control vehicle and pedestrian access efficiently
  • Provide authorised entry for staff and visitors
  • Ensure pupil safety at all times
  • Operate automatically during set times of the day
  • Comply with current safety standards for automated gates

Our Solution

Automated Vehicle Gates

We installed a robust double swing gate system for vehicle access, configured to operate on a timer. This allows the gates to open and close automatically at predetermined times, supporting smooth traffic flow during peak school hours.

For additional convenience and safety, an exit loop was installed to allow vehicles to exit the premises automatically without the need for manual input.

Pedestrian Access Gates

Two pedestrian gates were installed to provide safe, controlled access points for staff and authorised visitors. These gates were integrated with secure access control systems to ensure only permitted individuals can enter the site.

Access Control Systems

To deliver secure and flexible entry management, Net2 proximity readers were installed across both vehicle and pedestrian gates. This system enables authorised users to gain access quickly using proximity tokens or cards, while maintaining a high level of site security.

Intercom System

A Videx audio intercom system was installed to allow visitors to communicate directly with school staff before gaining access. This provides an additional layer of security and ensures all visitors are verified prior to entry.

Safety Features

Safety was a key priority for this installation. The system includes:

  • Safety sensors to detect obstacles and prevent gate movement when obstructions are present
  • Safety edges fitted to the gates to minimise risk of impact or injury
  • Push-to-exit buttons for pedestrians, allowing safe and easy egress from inside the premises

All safety features were installed in line with current regulations for automated gate systems, ensuring full compliance and peace of mind for the client.
